When it comes to home decor, most of us are influenced by many different styles we see around us. This can definitely be confusing, but being able to classify the decor we are attracted to will help us make sense of our unique style.
I will be dissecting and defining 3 home decor styles I am mainly influenced by. By defining these 3 home decor looks I am hoping to educate you just a little so that maybe I can help you define yours. Plus, there are more home decor bloggers sharing their styles too as part of this blog hop called "My Home Style"So, if you don't see your style here, make sure to visit the other blogs and see what styles they are influenced by. In a nutshell: I like jewel-tones. I LOVE texture. I like a "traveled look". I love a good bargain.
My 3 favorite home decor styles are BRITISH COLONIAL, TRANSITIONAL and ECLECTIC.
Here are some examples of these styles
BRITISH COLONIAL STYLE
British Colonial home decor started when the British Empire was at it's peak and colonists were traveling and exploring far off places and bringing home pieces to adorn their classic English homes giving their spaces a global, well- traveled and exotic look. Dark carved woods, teak and rattan, white walls, animal prints, and tropical botanicals are common in these British Colonial style homes.
TRANSITIONAL STYLE

Transitional style is the perfect balance of classic and contemporary. The lines of the furniture have a nod to tradition but are streamlined for a more contemporary feel. Plush fabrics, nailhead trim, rounded shapes, geometric patterns and a harmonizing color scheme are all part of the Transitional style.
Here is where I incorporated Transitional style in my home
ECLECTIC STYLE
Eclectic style is an artistic mix of different styles. Mid-century modern with classic antiques, contemporary with industrial, soft and hard, masculine and feminine, really anything goes as long as it has intention and is tastefully done. The fun in an eclectic space is how the juxtaposition of items bring each other out. For example, in the picture above, the classic-styled crown moulding looks even more classic when combined with contemporary abstract art. This tension and contrast makes eclectic spaces interesting. Many times, Eclectic spaces are balanced and pulled together through the use of color.

Mixing a variety of styles makes a home feel unique and interesting so go ahead and add "a little bit of this and a little bit of that!". Make your home a reflection of what you love! DeleteOh my God, you are a an awsome teacher....actually I am struggling with learning the mixing of different styles together.....my house is also kinda having a juxtaposition of different styles...I southasian traditional stuff , but want to keep it a little modern n glam as well....i like dramatic n rich vibe of decor but on the same side I like to add little bit of shabby chic look as well......well i never been attracted to British Colonial style but you made me think to incorporatethat style as well...love
