Easy DIY Valentine's Day Garland

I don't usually decorate for Valentine's day but I was craving something festive in the house after the holidays. I decided I was going to come up with an easy and inexpensive way to dress up the mantel. I took a trip to my local Dollar Tree store and purchased a few items to create a simple and whimsical Valentine's day garland.

I purchased a pack of felt heart stickers, basic envelopes and string. To make the garland I just closed each envelope over the string and sealed the envelope with a heart sticker. Once I had my desired length of garland, I taped each end of the string to the first and last envelopes so that they wouldn't slip off the string.

This was such an easy and affordable project and it only took a few minutes to finish. I can totally see this as a fun project for kids.

Looks like the moody gentleman in the portrait got struck by cupid's bow. Hopefully he lightens up.

The heart on the portrait is a lid from a cardboard heart box and I used a wood skewer with a white adhesive shipping label that I cut to shape and adhered it to the end of the "bow". I stuck it onto the portrait with sticky putty.

This project took just a few dollars and literal minutes to create. I think it's a good "starter" idea and that anyone could go even further with this project. I could see myself adding to this project in the future with maybe multi-colored envelopes in different sizes, or maybe use a collection of vintage valentine's day cards. I mean, the possibilities are endless.

Happy Valentine's day!
