Affordable Master Bathroom Options That I Hope Won't Look Affordable

Price is top priority when it comes to this bathroom renovation and is just as important as style. Like I mentioned in my previous post, we have no budget for demolition. What that means for this bathroom reno is that a lot of things are staying. Nothing will be ripped out, no plumbing will be reconfigured, no walls will be knocked out. Most of the changes will be cosmetic and really that's totally okay because everything in our bathroom works anyway, it's just that everything is, well...ugly.

This space has been neglected too long! No more!

I'm happy to say that so far I have found a lot of very affordable options for this bathroom but that kind of worries me. What if my bathroom ends up looking cheap because everything is affordable? Most designers say "Splurge on that one item that will be the star of the show!" But...what if I can't splurge right now?

Don't you hate those sneaky little thoughts of doubt? I get those A LOT when I have a project going on but my excitement of what things "could be" always pushes me to make my vision happen one way or another. The creative process is an emotional roller coaster for sure! So with that being said, I'm going to keep going and trust my decisions! Speaking of decisions, let me share with you some of those affordable options I've been talking about.

Obviously, I'm taking the color scheme and style from our bedroom and using that for the style of our bathroom which makes sense since this is a master suite. I know I want dark, warm wood tones, a lot of black and white, a bit of brass and of course some green accents which I currently don't know exactly how I'm going to incorporate that. I want the vibe of the space to feel a bit vintage, masculine and traditional but with a modern twist (which is my style in a nutshell).

Actually, this whole bathroom makeover started with the lighting. The sconces I have on my moodboard were the very first things I found and when I saw them I immediately fell in love with them. The lights have this vintage vibe to them and I'm thinking it's because of the brass accents and the GORGEOUS textured glass shades. Not only is the textured glass beautiful, it will also help soften the light from the bulbs which is important to me since the bathroom faces the bed and I don't want the glare from the lights to bother me when I'm sitting in bed.

These beauties are from Lamps Plus (of course! Almost all of the lighting in my home is from Lamps Plus. ) They're my go-to place for lighting because they have a vast selection for ALL PRICE POINTS so it was a no-brainer for me to start my search there. The best part -the lights were only $179!

I just saw these lamps are on sale today, 8/28/20 for $149.50! Check them out HERE

Now that I have the lighting chosen, I'm able to use them as a guide to choose everything else. Since the base of the vanity lights are black , I should  probably have the bathroom walls be a light color to allow  the vanity lights to pop. I'm thinking of either adding striped wallpaper or white subway tile as a wall backsplash. Hmmm... But then I think to myself, "Wallpaper in a master bathroom? Is that smart?" I mean it would definitely look AWESOME but how practical would that be? What do you think would look better? White subway tile or striped wallpaper?

For all the bathroom fixtures like the faucets, shower head, towel bars, ect. I'm sticking with black and brass metal throughout the space to tie everything together.

I definitely want to keep things moody in the bathroom with some darker tones so I'm thinking of getting my existing cabinets stained in a dark, warm coffee color. I have someone coming in to give me a quote for staining the cabinets and if it's to high I might just attempt to do it myself. I'm also thinking of going dark with the floors. I came across these black hexagon tiles at Lowes and I'm really diggin' them. The price for them is AMAZING at 99 cents a tile!!! Get this: these tiles are PEEL AND STICK TILES! That means that I can probably DIY those too without needing any special tools which will save me even more money! I've never in my life laid tile but there's always a first! I mean, how hard can it be? 😬

What do you think of my options so far? Not bad for being affordable am I right? I already ordered the lamps and they're on their way, but what about the flooring? Should I go for it? Do they...look affordable?

Let me know in the comments! I promise to keep you posted!

Thanks!

Oscar

  4. I love all your choices! I think these builders have a conspiracy going against buyers! The basic fixtures could not look any cheaper or uglier! I like the striped wallpaper instead of the tile. Can't wait to see it finished!

    1. I think you're right! Maybe these builders have a contract with home improvement stores to put the least stylish fixtures in a home so homebuyers can spend money on upgrades lol. Thanks for your comment :)
