Styling A Coffee Table - Halloween

Styling your coffee table is one of the funnest and quickest ways to change the look of your living room. But for many, styling a coffee table can be a daunting task. For those of you who find yourselves a bit "challenged" with creating an interesting and balanced vignette on your coffee table, I bring you a new blog series called "Styling A Coffee Table" where you can find tips, tricks and ideas for styling coffee tables and a few other seasonal things here and there!

My blogger friends and I got together to share what is currently on our coffee table each month (kind of like a blog home tour). You get to see many different ideas and tips on getting that vignette looking just right! At the end of each monthly post for this series, you will see links to all the participating blogs. Cool, huh?! And if you are coming from my friend Laila's blog, I welcome you!

This month, I am sharing a Halloween coffee table that I created by re-using item that I already owned. ZERO DOLLARS SPENT!

I wanted to create something that felt dark and mysterious... using my favorite color: emerald green.

The focal point of my vignette is the largest piece, my brass urn. I added faux stems to my urn and perched a black crow on one of the branches. The urn is where I started and built from there.

The next biggest piece was the black birdcage to the left that is housing my owl friend.
I then filled the negative space on my coffee table with my glass "vials of magic potion."

My "birdcage" is actually a trashcan turned upside down.

WHY THIS WORKS

Let's dissect this coffee table arrangement to understand what my eyes see when creating a vignette.

I create a harmonious vignette by sticking to a color scheme. My color scheme was black, green and gold which also compliments the decor in my home! (Of course!)

I created a balanced composition. I start with my biggest item as my main focal point. I then added two more  key items (one medium size and one small size) to balance out my arrangement. I create a sort of "pyramid" shape with my items. The tallest one in the middle, and the medium and small size on either end of the tall item. Then I add just one more smaller item casually placed besides my "pyramid". This gives my whole vignette more fluidity. In this case, it was the test tube vase to the left.

And there you have it! A creepy, but cool Halloween coffee table!

Make sure you visit all the blogs that are participating in the "Styling A Coffee Table" series! Next up, is my friend Summer's blog at "She Leaves A Little Sparkle" . Go pay her a visit along with the rest of the crew! I have the links below for your viewing pleasure. See you next month on the 15th when we share more coffee table ideas! Casual and Elegant Dining by the Fireplace

Forget the T.V. trays, my friends! Eating in the living room has never been better!

Next time you want to end the evening with some coffee, dessert or just a small bite, make it special  by arranging an indoor picnic. Set up a casual, yet pulled together table setting on your coffee table right in the middle of your living room!

Start a warm fire, turn on some candles and set some pillows on the floor for some comfy seating. Layer a soft throw over your coffee table for some added softness and you have yourself a casual, warm and inviting area that makes you want to share a meal snuggled up with someone special.

A simple arrangement  of grasses clipped from my yard adds some nice, autumnal color.

I made napkin rings by using the same blades of grass from my centerpiece

I used a soft throw blanket as a table runner

Use pillows to keep your tush from going numb...

These wooden coasters add to the "fall vibe". You can find similar ones HERE.

Now that Fall has arrived, most of us will be indoors where we can stay warm and cozy. Take advantage of that and gather around your fireplace to enjoy a small meal! And if you don't have a fireplace, then you can get the same effect by dimming the lights in your home and lighting some candles around your living room.

Also, I recommend that you invest in some dimmers for your lamps. Dimming the lights is a quick way to set the mood in your home. You can find some simple tabletop dimmers HERE. You simply plug your lamps into the dimmer, then move your switch  up or down to change the brightness of your lamp! There is also a dimmer switch that you can control with your Iphone! You can see that HERE!

Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my "indoor picnic". If you are into tablescapes as much as I am, then I recommend you check out my other table settings HERE! Hey, maybe you'll get some ideas for your Thanksgiving table! Crazy how time flies, huh)

Till next time!
